🎉 There’s a reason why I will only ever call ‘Cristiano’ by his first name, and that reason is Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima. Aka. The OG. Ronaldo-Ronaldo. Ronnie. Back then, you couldn’t just fire up ‘Ronaldo’s Best Goals’ on Youtube and start the learning process. If you weren’t physically there, chances are you probably didn’t see him bang in 42 goals in 46 games for PSV, 34 goals in 37 games for Barca, 49 in 68 for Inter, or 83 in 127 for Real Madrid. Maybe you got lucky and your folks had satellite TV. But no matter who we were, we all saw got to see him - resplendent in green and yellow - turn out for the Seleção at each World Cup. France 98. Japan/Sth Korea 02. Germany 06. That’s how I will remember him most - explosive pace, strength of an ox, ability to turn on a snowflake, ruthless finishing... that shirt and that smile. 62 goals in 98 international games. Feliz aniversário, O Fenômeno. 🎉
